Cartoons or Suicide Bombings - hmmm, what to Demonize?

In the recent protests of Muslims against the Denmark cartoons, people are questioning free speech, etc. I am questioning the Muslims' priorities and true values and beliefs. Time and time again, the world talked about the silence of the Muslim population throughout the world after September 11th's tragedy, the London bombings etc. In an article in the UK, the Muslim clerics denounce murder and the taking of innocent lives and state that Muslims should pray for the defeat of terrorism and extremism.

UK Muslims issue bombings fatwa

Yet, cartoons bring about a Muslim outcry around the world. I ask the followers of Islam, what would Mohammed want you to pray for or publicly protest... cartoonists or murderers of innocent lives?

I was TOTALLY thinking the same thing. It's SO insane. If a group is insulted, you know what the SANE thing is to do? Demand an apology. Hmmmm, I guess that doesn't get enough attention? I don't quite understand it.

Let's also wonder what's worse... a stupid cartoon depiction, done by ONE DUTCH PERSON, or the "honor" killings and acid attacks on innocent women EVERY day in the Middle East.

I am wondering too, we can see how leaders are "falling" for this violence and intimidation, where the news editors were fired, and leaders are issuing warnings for europeans out in Islamic states. This is intimidation. One cartoon can cause people to demonstrate with signs that say "slay, burn and behead those who offend us", and general torching of Danish embassies, and country leaders to be "bending" to their will to quiet them down by saying we need to take responsibility if we are to have free speech. HA. Then its not free! I mean, it offends me that suicide bombers kill innocent people, but you don't hear me saying all muslims should be gassed.

Extremism is an all or nothing mentality, with us or against us. Shouldn't the muslim community be trying to convince us that they are for peace, instead of extremism and intimidation? I could go on, but i will stop here.

one more thing......shouldn't the reaction be in line with the act? I mean, we didn't torch embassies from muslim countries after we found out that Muslim extremists caused september 11th. If anything, if they can justify killing the infidels for a cartoon, then what kind of punishment is justifiable for killing 3000 people in the US? Nuclear bombing? WTF!

Exactly. Excellent points. There really is no logic to this at all and the reactions are completely skewed. It is very scary.

I guess I was being somewhat naive and presumptuous in my last comment. I presumed there was an element of tolerance in Islam. Certainly I am more tolerant of smokers if they are not doctors and more tolerant of "sinners" if they are not Christian.
It has been said by some that the Middle East culture, in some ways, is several hundred years behind the western world. Does anyone get the feeling the world is in for another crusade, this time misrepresenting Mohmmed instead of misrepresenting Christ? And now with modern nuclear weapons!!!!
