Never Forget

Never forget that we saw true evil on September 11th, 2001. The terrorists attacked us on our continent. They did not stand and fight; they did not battle us on a war front; they did not attack military bases. They deliberately murdered fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, daughters, and sons. They deliberately targeted seniors and children. On a day that should have been like any other, they took innocent lives going about their day. Remember this.

Thank you to our Canadian soldiers who are risking their lives to protect us and the people of Afghanistan from these murderers. The true good martyrs are those risking their lives to save the innocent, not destroy the innocent.

It has always amazed me that more is not said about the fact that these murderers are targeting innocent people. Whether it is hiding behind children in Lebanon while wearing civilian clothes, blowing up airplanes, or crashing into civilian buildings. It has totally changed the rules of war (if that is, indeed, what this is, as opposed to just mass murder by another organized crime faction). Yet, their are people that speak of adhering to the "rules of war" on the part of the west. Just stupid! They moan about collateral civilian damage, but say little about the AIM and GOAL on the part of these murserers is to KILL civilians. Maybe it is simply to scary for them to deal with. NATO needs to sit down and put together a totally new approach to this situation. At least warring nations over the past hundred years or so were civilized enough to understand the sanctity of civilians. Bush is right. This is a struggle to save civilization!.

This can be a struggle to save civilization.
Conventional forces are trained and equipped to fight "the last war".
Today's contest is more like fighting slavers, drugrunners and pirates. Terror is hostage taking ; a tactic of guerilla warfare.
Opposition is not a government, an army or a regular civil authority.
Whirling around in rage and sending men with assault weapons to brandish them in unfamiliar places will not, by itself, accomplish much except temporarily placate the irate at home.
Afghanistan's history is a complete train wreck of foreign interference and they certainly don't share our cultural traditions and assuptions. They are alien in thought and can only be influenced in terms they understand.
Our forces do deserve to be equipped properly and backed up (logistics). They should not be deployed without a cogent objective, plan and reasonable expectation of some success.
You don't put out an electrical fire with water.
BTW, the now dead suicide squad of Saudi assasins cannot be equated with just any other group from that general area of the world.
Calling a demand for intelligent action cowardice and defeatism does not sway me.
