Slicko...

I really think it is a travesty that Moore's movies are misrepresented as documentaries rather than the fictional set up they are. Regardless, I am thinking by now that most people take what he portrays with a barrel of salt.

As I have portrayed in a previous blog, I can't understand how anyone can consider Cuba as a model for anything. I wonder how the US, or Canada for that matter, would feel about tourists paying for better care than their citizens get. Here are some more pics I have found on blogs regarding the state of healthcare for the Cuban citizen:

The Real Sicko Pictures: Cuba's Healthcare

Yep, that's some real compassion there!!!

Yes I remember your old post on Cuba Lanny... You should repost those links, they were quite enlightening.

I haven't seen Sicko, but it leaves me wondering if Moore did proper research on this or if he purposely slanted it... I know, you'll call me naive, but I like to get the whole story first, and if that means watching the movie, then I might.

I find it strange how people are slamming the movie without even seeing it. Why don't you watch it and make judgements after? Of course its slanted. And quite purposely. He doesn't pretend he isn't biased. He's said that in interviews. People already know that the US has some of the best care in the world....if you are willing to pay. What about the rest that aren't spoken for? Its slanted because he's trying to raise the issues and make a point. One thing I particularly liked about this movie is that it wasn't about people who are uninsured....it was about people who were insured.

Regardless the state of dismal health care in Cuba, don't you think its strange that the workers got better care there than in their home country, especially after risking their lives to save others? A country that doesn't even have enough resources to properly treat their own citizens that welcomed "the enemy"-a country whose trade embargo has contributed to Cuba's poverty for decades (and I am not making comments about their politics as I do not know enough about it to properly judge). Don't you think its weird that such an awful health care system such as that in Cuba is only 2 spots lower on the WHO list than the US? Did he make that up too? He shows all the documents in the movie, many are available on the internet. In addition, prisoners-terrorist suspects- at G-bay are receiving better health care than the 9/11 heros. I find it weird.

Watch the movie, write out the misrepresentations (and there are a few of "free healthcare"), and where he has the facts wrong, then judge. Thats all I can say about it really.

I would think that one of the best ways for Cuba to give the US the finger would be to provide their best healthcare (the tourist variety) for the US veterans. Surely, Rosie, you don't think they did it for compassionate reasons.
The US gets a black eye from the WHO, but then the UN has little good to say as well (in spite of the US being the UN's major financial supporter). As for the grading system there are a variety of charts so one must be careful of the "grade" given. One of the charts has Canada WAY down there, but there sure is some strong lobbying going on to keep things as they are in spite of the continuous decline.
I might watch the movie if I knew that Moore didn't receive one penny from my watching, or if I could have his platform for a rebuttle. I'm quite tired of people setting themselves up as experts on healthcare for political reasons (including Tommy Douglas and all the "let's save healthcare politicos" since, who don't know squat (or if they do, they don't give a damn as long as you vote fot them)!
As for the insurance thing, Ive made some very bad decisions as to what I should cover in my lifetime----wasted a lot of money on life insurance and I'm still here. Paid into disability for years and only missed one sick day from work in forty years. My stupid policy didn't kick in until I'd been off for 30 days. Now on the other hand there is a drug to keep the white blood count up so people can continue their chemo for cancer, but in my wife's case I was told it wasn't covered. Just $2800.oo every three weeks. I wonder if I can find someone who has a cause and get it covered in Cuba.

Even if it is free, my time is worth more (and my mental health) than sitting watching something from Moore. After seeing things he has set up in previous movies (note that it was proven that Moore couldn't walk out of the bank the same day with a gun, it was set up for the movie. Moore doesn't have any credibility with me. Also, Moore is a complete socialist and I am completely against socialism. Do you know whether Moore paid for the Cuban healthcare? I'm willing to bet he did... and if he didn't, don't think that dictators don't know the influence of the media. Look south to Chavez and the left who idolize him for proof of that. Keep in mind also that Cuba sells healthcare to rich tourists. Big money maker for Fidel as his doctors are slave labor in a socialist system. Much money to be made. Moore's little movie is good advertising. If you clicked on the link and saw the pics of what the citizens put up with, you'd think again. Also, as Mich said, check out pictures on a previous post regarding Cuban healthcare. I, for one, have boycotted Cuba and never gone on holiday there as I don't want to support that regime in any way.

As far as Guantanamo, don't you think there would be hell to pay if they didn't treat the prisoners with top of the line healthcare? You bet there would.
